In a spirited evening of color, culture, and community, the British Computer Society (BCS) chapter at the University of Wolverhampton recently hosted the “BCS Diversity Dinner” on June 10, 2024. The event, held at the Vice Chancellor’s Hall, gathered students, staff, and Wolverhampton locals for a night dedicated to celebrating the richness of cultural diversity in tech.

Prominent guests included Vice Chancellor Professor Ebrahim Adia and renowned British mathematician Professor Niran Chamberlain, who joined local leaders and community members to underscore the importance of inclusivity in the digital landscape. The evening featured dynamic dance and music performances by Peter Chand and Dr. Andrew Gascoyne, creating an immersive experience of global traditions.

From traditional attire representing Nigeria, Nepal, India, Scotland, and beyond, to a lineup of cultural showcases, the dinner served as a testament to the power of inclusivity in strengthening tech communities.

In his opening speech, the former BCS Wolverhampton President and a Nigerian, Olukorede Oyewoga, highlighted the event’s mission “Diversity and inclusion are essential to fostering relationships that will drive economic growth in the UK. Wolverhampton is regarded as a melting pot for different cultures and I believe this will help increase the city's economic value tremendously in the nearest future”.

Events such as the BCS Diversity Dinner helps to pave the way for a more united and innovative tech landscape, one that recognizes and celebrates the value of diverse perspectives in shaping a brighter, more collaborative future.
